Collegiate and High School Sports Competitions Attract TV Viewers

Charles Besser, the president and CEO of Chicago-based Intersport, Inc., has built a successful television production and marketing company over the last 30 years. Under Charlie Besser’s leadership, Intersport has won Tellys, an Emmy, a Webby, and an NATPE Mobile Award for its work. In 2003, Charles Besser added an event-marketing division, which organizes live sporting events, such as the High School Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships.

This event imbues high school athletics with the excitement of the NCAA Final Four. Airing on CBS, the championships premiered in 2011 and became the most-watched high school basketball event of that year and the following year. The annual event, which takes place on Final Four weekend, provides multiple platforms for sponsors to use to increase their brand exposure.

Intersport also produces the All-Star Football Challenge, which has become a highlight of ESPN’s pre-NFL Draft programming and Super Bowl weekend. The event features prominent college football stars in competitive skill-testing events. Current NFL players such as Drew Brees, Vince Young, and Santana Moss have also participated in the event.
